By Marina Correa Photography: Courtesy the architect “I would not exist if I wasn’t an architect,” is a dramatic statement that best describes Priyanka Pradeep, principal architect, PS Design. With design being intrinsic to her persona, she transforms ordinary spaces into plush environments through her keen sense of aesthetics and style... Though she hates rules and restrictions, and most definitely the term ‘budget’, Priyanka’s works adhere to the basic tenets of what good architecture and interiors is all about: good planning, balancing a practical yet aesthetic space, focusing on a client’s preferences and always making sure no two spaces are alike. Interestingly, her signature style is simple on the outside but engineered intricately within; combining elements of architecture, subtle colour palettes, sensuous textures, shapes that are both structured and organic in a contemporary setting… all work towards evoking a strong response. For instance, her preference for subtle shades blurs boundaries, making a space appear larger and is then accentuated with artworks and accessories. Colour is infused through soft furnishings; hence the versatility of expressing colours, texture and patterns makes fabrics her favourite material to work with. When you want to initiate a change in décor, just change your soft furnishings and the entire space will take on a new dimension, she adds. Here are a few pointers to help you stylishly do up your home: • Allow one strong artwork to dictate the colour scheme for a room and then use different tones/shades of that colour in furniture, upholstery, accessories etc. • When framing a personal photograph, ensure that the shot is lost in the moment of what one is most passionate about. Not only will it speaks volumes but also personify the space. • When the décor is overtly simple, use recessed lighting to highlight one striking aspect like textured or attractive wallpaper. • To aesthetically divide a space, in the absence of a wall, use a display rack preferably in neutral colours; glam it up with some interesting lifestyle accessories. • When using a dark-coloured palette, add elements of lighter shades to avoid it becoming too overbearing; ensure there is at least one highlight feature like a gorgeous chandelier or shimmering mosaic tiles. • Beautifully framed large mirror on one wall can heighten the visual depth of the room while making it an attractive feature element. • For striking bedroom décor, create a statement headboard, but keep the rest of the room simple to emphasize the focal point. to view images click on www.indiaartndesign.com
