Almost everyone has tried their hand selling at least once, but usually as a hobby or a sideline, and not as a full time career. Few of us realize that being a sales person can have advantages far above what you can expect from a common office job. In selling, the sky's is the limit to what you can attain. You are limited only by how much you are willing to work to achieve your targets.

If you're thinking of breaking into sales, the perfect place to starts is with yourself. The amount of achievement you will attain is directly proportional to the amount of time, hard work and money you are willing to invest in enhancing your abilities, getting the appropriate understanding and building the best mind-set

There are two fundamental skills that each future sales person ought to learn.

Interpersonal Skills

As a sales person you should have a high level of social intelligence. In other words, you must have very great interpersonal skills. You must know how to overcome different kinds of people, and must have no difficulty making new friends and working with folks from vastly different backgrounds. You should be understanding of other people's feelings, and must always be open and attentive to their own ideas, opinions and suggestions. This kind of practice is a key element for success in executing business with clients, as well as in working with everyone you meet.

Communication Skills

One of your most effective tools as a sales rep is your mouth, or rather, your communication skills. You must be a fluent and eloquent speaker, able to choose the right words that will convey exactly what you mean. Remember that communication is a two way thing. More important than speaking well, you should be able to actively listen to what others have to say.

What incisively can you expect to see from a profession in sales?

A higher salary Much more incentives and quicker career improvement Better freedom of routine More freedom to complete things your way More chances to meet people More challenges More fun

Of course selling is also serious work, involving real challenges and very real pressurers, but perhaps no other job allows you to express yourself more, explore your full capabilities and truly enjoy life, while making a lot of money on the side. Many of us need to use sales techniques sometimes. So, learning how to prepare and pitch your idea or product effectively is a great skill to have. As a non-salesperson, the consultative selling model is an effective model to use, because it uses trust and respect as its foundation.
