Have you ever heard of spending a week or so in a gold mining camp? Families are invited to go on a gold mining adventure in California by camping on the Mokulmne River. There is this old gold mining camp on the Mokulmne River. This camp was so inaccessible that it could only be reached by horseback and because of this, most of its gold is still around and is still being mined today. This gold mining camp was once mined by the forty-niners. Guests and families are invited to see and participate in most of the gold mining adventures aside from camping. Camping on the Mokulmne River in California is one of the family activities this place has to offer. While camping on the Mokulmne River, there are a number of family activities that cater to members of all ages like fishing for Rainbow Trout or German Browns, hiking in trails the forty-niners once used, collecting rocks like river rubies, jasper, jade and crystal quartz, swimming in nature’s most beautiful swimming holes, rafting, and diving. The family may also enjoy the miniature golf course and children may have fun adventures in the playground where they can enjoy the swing, slide and climbing fort. For those who have signed up for the camping activities, guests may enjoy the Saturday night cookout dinner which is a hearty New York Steak BBQ. This dinner is free for those who are camping but will cost $50 for non-campers. With regard to other activities campers may do while on camp are some gold mining adventures such as visiting the Placer Gold Mine, panning for gold with the patented pans which may be purchased at the general store of this mining camp, dredging, and sluicing. Guests who wish to mine for gold using the sluicing method, will have to make reservations ahead of time so that gold bearing gravel piles may be dug off the bedrock and run through the screening plant to remove larger rocks which are non-gold bearing. A sluice box, water supply, a settling pond and the necessary equipment is provided. Then water is supplied for about three hours a day – one and a half hours in the morning and another one and a half hour in the afternoon. This process will approximately take five to six days to remove the gold from the operation. In this operation, everyone works together on the common operation and the gold that is found is divided equally between the participants. This method of obtaining gold would cost $325 per person which includes the use of all mining equipment, help from the crew of this mining camp and cabin rent.
