However, with rising Air Passenger Duty (APD), airport charges and continued high global oil prices, this upward trend in the cost of air travel is likely to continue in the foreseeable future. Other significant trends affecting the market include the expansion of online services and other technological products by providers and suppliers of business travel products. With the proliferation of smartphones and tablets in recent years, numerous TMCs and travel companies have launched applications (‘apps’), aimed at providing users with easily accessible booking and itinerary managements services. Continued economic uncertainty, particularly across Europe, will continue to impact the market over the short to medium term, limiting growth to a relatively subdued rate between 2013 and 2015. As financial conditions improve, and business confidence across the developed economies returns, demand for business travel is expected to become increasingly strong, providing more significant growth over the long-term period.
