You might been involved in some kind of selling in your career, peddling products and promoting services for the company you’re working for. But what many people don’t realize is that the toughest sale of all is selling yourself to yourself! It’s overcoming that “little voice” in your head that always crops up in the worst possible times – usually when you’re thinking about implementing a great new idea or have a dream you want to achieve. That little voice can sabotage your success if you let it stop you from accomplishing the things that you know you should do. You may be wondering what your “Little Voice” is exactly. Well, it’s that voice in your head that just said, “What ‘Little Voice’?” That’s right, that’s the one! It’s the chatter in the six inches between your ears that turns you into a hero one minute and into a fool the next. It’s also the voice in your head that says, “I’m just a junior salesperson, why would people listen to me?” “My prospects will never be interested in what I say!” “What if they reject me?” Or simply the infamous quote, “I give up!” That little voice is Public Enemy No. 1 to your income and personal growth. It harms you by feeding on your self-concept. No matter how responsible, diligent or hardworking you are, if your self-concept is low, you will be easily affected by what your little voice tries to make you out to be. It will tell you that you aren't good enough to succeed, or are an inferior salesperson, preventing you from taking the action you know you should – and your results will ultimately be poor. Don’t let your negative “little voice” rob you of the opportunity to achieve the success that you deserve! Here are some strategies that can help you to manage your negative “little voice”: Change Your Vocabulary 1, Start with positive affirmations like, “I’m an awesome salesperson, and I know I can do this.” 2. Repeat this affirmation every time doubt seeps in! Your little voice is simply a result of your past conditioning. But bear in mind that your past does NOT equate your future. You CAN change your current situation for the better! Recall a Big Win Another great way to overcome the little voice in the face of fear is to recall a time in your life when you had a big win. Recall where you were, what you saw, how it felt and what you were saying to yourself at the time. When you can recall it, make a fist and shout, “Yes!” Your energy will come up, and you will walk into your call with the memory and feeling of success instead of fear. Change Your Friends If you have friends with whom you are sharing your dreams and goals…take notice. What are their reactions when you tell them about that great new idea or incredible dream you’d love to fulfill? Are they trying to help you get to where you want to go, or are they are giving you all the reasons you’ll never succeed? If you have friends who themselves have issues with their negative little voices and try to drag you further away from your dreams, it’s time to change your friends! Go make some new friends who are successfully pursuing their passions – they are the ones who will inspire you to succeed and have much more supportive words for you. The bottom line is – there is a much bigger person inside of you than you give yourself credit for.
