In the life that you know, the birth of a child is a happy occasion, which is awaited and celebrated with great enthusiasm. The child is then taken home and loved unconditionally. From braces to a college admission, the parents will do whatever it takes, to make sure that they provide the best for their child. However, there are many cases where the needs of the child are not put first. The reasons behind this may differ according to the situation, but the fact remains, that a large number of these kids are robbed of a childhood and forced to contribute to the income of the family, by working. Yes, child labor is a huge concern, as there are millions of kids around the world who are made to work long hours in unimaginable working conditions. It would be difficult for an adult to get from one day to the next, if he is kept in such an environment, imagine the effect it will have on the psychosis of a child. Child laborers are considered an asset, as these kids work for the minimum wage. Additionally, children are very quick to pick up new skill they can work fast and efficiently thus, saving large amounts of time and money. Although these activities are illegal, they are still at large in different parts of the globe. In some countries, the number children who are forced to work are higher than in others. Child labor in India is a very serious problem, as the country has one of the highest populations of child laborers in the world. A large number of children are employed in the precious stone cutting sector and the zari and embroidery industry. A recent study showed that, many of the children are between the ages of seven to fourteen. They are made to work for fourteen to sixteen hours a day, in factories with poor ventilation and a number of health violations. Thus, the children tend to fall sick and in spite of this, they are denied their right to medical treatment. Due to a poor diet, it becomes difficult for their bodies to combat the illness and recover quickly. The concept that these social evils only exist in the rural and industrial areas, is wrong, the problem is at large in the urban areas as well. Children are made to work as domestic help, in a number of houses in the city. They are not paid well and denied the chance enjoy their childhood and have the time of their lives. It is important that we create awareness about this social evil, so that the need for change can be brought to the notice of the public. When the world is aware of the darkness that lurks behind the corner, measures can be taken in order to fight them and let them become something of the past. So play a role, to make sure that all children get the chance to have the carefree childhood you remember.
