Intelligent Web Design: Tips To Take Your Website To The Next Level

Website Design,Blogs,Website Promotion
Ever since the World Wide Web began an accessible platform for people across the to communicate through, people have been looking for ways to make it better and more engaging. Since Netscape and Internet Explorer launched in the early 1990s advances in the user experience of the web have progressed tremendously. When it comes to designing websites, you must pay attention to the Website design Virginia Beach of your site or not only will you find extremely difficult to rank up in search engines, but your site visitors will notice and be much less likely to do what ever you want them to do on your site in the first place. If "www.bobs-music-site.com" has an archaic, clunky HTML site with a garish background and confusing navigation that looks like it was made in 1996 (because it was) they will not be inclined to listen to his music. Especially when "www.steves-music-site.com" has a well organized, smooth interface with very obvious navigation and a straightforward layout. User accessibility to your content is just as important as the content itself in today's ruthlessly competitive web environment.

There are numerous ways to improve user experience from CSS style sheets to pre-created templates in Wordpress or Blogger platforms, to graphic design and layout changes that make your site easier to read and easier to navigate. Giving serious thought to all of these aspects when designing a website is crucial to end up with the most effective, competitive sites. What may potentially be the most important step of all, however, is to refine the functionality.

Make sure you have proper name structure for all the pages on your site. having "www.example.com/239gt%2ii34" might make sense on your server, but a human visitor will have no idea what that means, so renaming it to "www.example.com/price-list" will make your human customers much more aware of what they are clicking on. Also, making sure your targeted keywords are in the page's filename as much as you can.

Also important to your site's improved functionality are the title tags. The title tags are what is displayed at the top of your browser's window that displays what the site is about. This usually (or at least, ideally) would display optimized keywords for the site or that specific page. For example, if a page's title tag reads "Price List", modify it to say perhaps "Price List for www.steves-music-site.com - Virginia Beach's Best Jazz Resource (757) 555-1234". Having unique title tags on every page has been shown to help your site rank better in Google searches, which is absolutely what you are trying to do. Furthermore, incorporating keywords judiciously into your description meta tags (again making sure each page is unique) will yet again chip in to a better Google ranking.

If you're wondering "what about design though?" never fear. You should make sure you or your designer is prepared for one crucial design element: integrating XHTML & CSS content management standards. XHTML (or HTML) is the language that your site's actual content will be written in. This is the meat and potatoes of your whole site, this is what your visitors will be there for, so this content should be as good and useful as possible. As well as your content, your design can receive a MAJOR boost by incorporating CSS style sheets that will take your content and adjust how it displays inside a web browser. This will enable many of the more artistic changes you may want, as well as facilitating easy redesigns if you want to freshen things up later. All you or your designer will have to do is change you CSS code and all of you X/HMTL content will display perfectly without needing to be modified!

Finally, make sure you are not overloading your consumers with information. A good site should have enough ptions so that needs are met, but not so many that users become lost or confused. A good way to test this is called "the mom test". Have your mother, or if she is an internet whiz, some less net-savvy person you know navigate your site to do a specific task or find a specific product with no other instructions than the URL. If they are putting around with no clue while you facepalm in the corner, you may need to redesign your site layout. Simplifying menus and paring down the amount of items per page can remove this navigational clutter and make your web presence that much more useful.
