It may seem like it is not difficult to give to a charity. You simply pick one and donate. However, not all charities are alike, and some may not be as helpful as you might think. Sukamto Sia, a successful business owner in Singapore, wishes to provide you with some advice as to how to give to the charities that really make a difference. - Let the Internet Help You Decide. The internet is one of the most important tools that Sukarman Sukamto says you can use. The internet will help you find charities that match your ideals and actually help people in need. Websites that track how well charities stack up against each other are a great resource for finding the charities that truly make a difference.
- Donate to Familiar Charities. You may not wish to use the internet as a resource because you are already familiar with charitable organizations. Sukamto Sia recommends that you donate to organizations that you have already had experiences with, perhaps by volunteering. As long as you are familiar with how they handle charitable funds, and they are aligned with your ideals, go ahead and donate to the charity next door.
- Donate Only to Registered Charities. Not all charities are what they seem, notes Sukarman Sukamto. Some of these organizations will lie through their teeth in order to score a quick buck from you. The money they receive never goes to the people they claim it will, and your hard earned money is suddenly going to a scam-artist instead of people in need. Make sure that the IRS has registered the charity you plan on donating to. They have a list of all charities that have been registered.
- Donate Time Instead of Money. Before deciding to give your money to a charity, a good way to get to know if they are legitimate is by first donating your time to the charity. Sukamto Sia believes that this will let you get to know the people involved with the charity. It will also let you see, firsthand, how the charitable organization uses the money it receives.
- Ask Questions. When deciding which charity to give to, Sukarman Sukamto advises that it is perfectly acceptable to ask questions. Charities are required to give you information.
Sukamto Sia believes that it is incredibly important to donate to charities, and hopes these tips will help you choose the best ones to donate to. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/15716521/ns/us_news-giving/t/tips-charitable-giving/#.UfhvLo21GSo http://business.time.com/2011/06/01/how-to-help-tornado-victims-and-other-tips-for-online-giving/
