The most widely loved lights in our houses and apartments today tend to be halogen lights due to the vast amounts of light that they can give out and the ability of them to be dimmed and used as mood lighting. They are now widely used in lounges and kitchens as well as hallways due to the excellent light properties they have. The standard fixing for the majority of halogen bulbs such as the small ones that are around an inch and a half and diameter is the GU 10 standard. The downside to using lots of these halogen lights is to give out lots of light they also use up vast amounts of power and a kitchen with a dozen bulbs set in the ceiling will be using up 600 W or more in power, and this can actually add a considerable amount on to your electric bill annually, particularly if you have them fitted in other areas such as hallways and lounges. The good news is that you can now purchase GU 10 LED bulbs, which offer all of the convenience of halogen bulbs and many more good features besides, but that do not have the high running costs associated with them. GU 10 LED bulbs are now available for a wide range of lighting options from ones that are plain white lights to replace standard halogen bulb applications, through to coloured ones that can be used for mood lighting (An advantage of these is that they can be used to create virtually infinite colour lighting schemes), as well as ones that can be used with dimmer switches. Many of these variants were not available as like for like replacements for halogen bulbs with the early GU 10 LED bulbs that came onto the market. However consumer demand LEDlight bulbs has meant that manufacturers have rapidly developed a wide range of lighting solutions for them including dimmable and non-dimmable bulbs, LED spot lights, and wide angle lights to name but a few. So they can be used to replace pretty much any existing halogen bulb application, which is great news as LED bulbs only use 15-20 percent of electricity compared to the same wattage of a standard halogen bulb. Also the average LED bulb will last for around 25000 to 50,000 hours, meaning that whilst they might cost more initially not only will the energy savings be rapid, but there is the added advantage of a much smaller number of replacement bulbs being needed over the years, indeed an GU 10 LED Bulb may outlast you!
