While stating that our role as Church is not to anoint or endorseany leader or political party, the bishops of Kenya are askingthe nation s citizens to vote for persons who respect life andare willing to stand and be counted when it comes to the protectionof the unborn babies. We reiterate that life begins at conception and ends with naturaldeath, the bishops said in their May 3 statement. Any provisionfor abortion in any legal instrument is greatly considered as botha structural move to disrespect the dignity of the unborn andphysical violence by those performing abortion. The bishops added: The Catholic Church in Kenya continues to raise her concern on theprovisions of Article 26(4) of the Constitution and its provisionfor abortion. If life is not respected and the unborn are deniedtheir right to life, then for whom are we preparing this beautifulNation? Respect human life, even that of the unborn babies and Godwill bless you. We call upon you people of Kenya, to vote for persons who respectlife and are willing to stand and be counted when it comes to theprotection of the unborn babies. We as Bishops also condemn anyform of violence against women, against the human person, and hisor her property and against the environment. We should rememberthat we have been placed by God as stewards of creation. The luringof Kenyans to work in inhumane conditions in Kenya and outside thecountry is also a matter of serious concern. Dear mothers and women, you have the God given privilege and indeeda Divine right to be mothers and to see your children grow in joyand happiness. In the spirit of motherhood, never allow any forceto influence you to terminate human life which can only come intobeing because of God and your care. We wish to condemn in thestrongest possible terms any attempts to legalize prostitution inthis country. Kenya s bishops also called for nation unity in the face of callsfor secession. We are deeply concerned by calls for secession by the MombasaRepublican Council (MRC) in the Coast Province, they said.
