Fresh Air Exhaust was invented in 2004 by Dr. Larry Mann. He originally began Fresh Air Exhaust (FAE) to help save the sport of Wake Surfing. At the time, the sport was under serious threat due to concerns of the Carbon Monoxide danger. "I have been around boats most of my life. I certainly have smelled exhaust fumes while operating boats. For the most part, I had very little concern for Carbon Monoxide. If I had been aware of platform dragging when I was a teenager, I would have done it. When I began building and testing Fresh Air Exhaust I was merely trying to move the exhaust further away from the Wake Surfer. Even though I was aware of the potential dangers of Carbon Monoxide and some of the drowning deaths associated with it, my attitude towards boat exhaust was still somewhat careless. My attitude changed substantially once I actually began testing. During our first time testing Carbon Monoxide levels we let the boat idle near the pier. As I moved towards the back seat the alarm on the Biosystemsmonitor started blaring. The CO levels inside the boat, around the back seat, exceeded 1100 ppm. Since 1200 ppm is considered lethal, I suddenly had a new respect for CO levels present in boats." Recently I read a news article, the little girl was in a boat parade, traveling at no wake speeds. She sat on the swim platform for a few minutes then began crying and became disoriented. Fortunately she received prompt emergency care and spent 2-1/2 hours in a hyperbaric chamber. The family boat is now equipped with a Fresh Air Exhaust. Unless your boat has a catalytic converter, the engine produces LETHAL LEVELS of Carbon Monoxide. At 5 mph (No Wake Zone) the Carbon Monoxide levels remain lethal and even at 10 mph (wake surfing) the levels are still dangerously high. Studies demonstrate that FAE drastically reduces Carbon Monoxide levels at 5 mph and virtually eliminates them at 10 mph. Do NOT let anyone on the swim platform while the engine is idling (unless docking, etc), even if you have a FAE. If you sit at the rear of the boat as human ballast or coaching a surfer, the boat must be equipped with a catalytic converter or a Fresh Air Exhaust. Fresh Air Exhaust is pleased to announce that Correct Craft Boats (Nautique) has included a Fresh Air Exhaust designed system on their 2014 G23 and G25 boats; the system is called a Surf Pipe. Pleasure Craft Marine evaluated the Surf Pipe and certified it for use on their 550 hp supercharged engine (XS 550 SC). Larry Mann, the inventor of Fresh Air Exhaust, is thrilled that the Surf Pipe has been certified on the largest, highest horsepower engine available from Pleasure Craft Marine. It is evident that FAE can handle the demands of the smaller engines typically found on inboard ski boats. Fresh Air Exhaust is available for ALL inboard boats: G23, G25, all other Nautiques, Axis, Calabria, Centurion, Correct Craft, Epic, Gecko, Hydrodyne, Infinity, Malibu (all Wedges), MasterCraft, MB, Moomba, Sanger, Shamrock, Ski Supreme, Supra, Tige, some SwitchBlades, as well as yachts and sports fishers.
