Many of you might not know this, but the first bus was very close to the minibus Hire we have today. The word "bus" is short for the Latin word "Omnibus". It was actually named fo the Hatter Omne's shop which he called "Omnes Omnibus". It was across the street of one of the very first bus stations that was opened in Nantes in 1825. It means "for all". When motorized transport replaced horse-drawn transport starting 1905, a motorized omnibus was called an autobus, a term still used in Europe today. Buses were initially configured with an engine in the front and an entrance at the back. The trolleys in San Francisco still have these types of model. Front-engine buses still exist for many of the niche markets such as American school buses, Minibuses and some older buses in underdeveloped of so called "third world" countries. The first internal combustion engine buses were developed along with the automobile. After the first engine powered bus of 1895, The Yellow Coach manufacturing company became a major manufacturer of busses in Chicago in 1923 and was the first major manufacturer in the world. However, Models expended in the 20th century and the bus made its way to Europe and took over for the stagecoach and hackney carriage companies that had been using steam powered busses or using overhead wires fed by a pantograph. Nowadays, companies around the world are using this same model to manufacture and sell any number of Minibus Hire in Essex and around the world.
