Chicago is one of the most welcoming city for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender or GLBT community. The city is popularly known for its lively easygoing environment and outdoor activities. It witnesses a variety of gay-friendly businesses and organizations. A variety of events occur in the country throughout the year. These events are a source of great pride among these communities. These festivals encourage people to attend these events again and again. These events are organized to display the diversity and culture of Chicago Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender communities. The individuals show pride and a sense of belonging to these communities through participation and celebration with each other. This also provides them a medium to express their views related to current issues of LGBT community. The participants here also learn about essential legislation and how they relate to LGBT culture. The people here get to learn about how to talk about their matters with legislators. These gay events are also organized with the intention to raise money for a number of projects like fighting AIDS Continuously Together (FACT). The first gay event Chicago was held in 1970, just a year after New York City event. People witnessed a bold but loosely organized stream of activities. The participants marched across the city shouting for gay rights. With the passage of time the strength of marchers and supporters grew. Today this gay event is attended by thousands of people. Now nearly about hundred of gay themed events like sports, dances, concerts, theatrical performances, lectures, awards ceremonies, dinners, book discussions and workshops are enjoyed by the participants. During these events huge parties are conducted. Big neon balloons of vivacious colors are inflated and taken across the streets of the cities. Masks and other props play a major part in these events. Dancers and DJs are found dancing and singing all across the streets. The dancers utilize all their energy and dance with their high spirits to make the event a grand success. The event takes place every year and the combined effort of people makes it a huge success. Majority of gay event Chicago takes place during the end of the June. The Pride is packed with fun entertainment from the beginning till the end. Each day of the event is perfectly planned and executed without any hurdle in the middle. The parade in Chicago starts from Halsted Street and follow approximately two miles route to reach its final destination in Lincoln Park. All Along the route, the audience can witness more than 250 groups including LGBT veterans, political activists and elected officials. Due to the huge crowd size the visitors are advised to book their hotel well in advance on the parade route. Also there are plenty of hotels available outside the city at cheaper rates. Event Organizers recommend the viewers to use public transportation during the event and park their car in the hotel garage. People who want to eye witness the event should reach on the route early in the morning to avoid traffic hassles. Taking pets along is not advisable due to excessive crowd and noise.
