Book Writing Book writing has caught popularity as a profession in recent times. Many writers, naive as well as genius, are trying their hands at writing books. Writing lets you have a creative expression of your thoughts, ideas, and experiences; whereas authoring a book lets you have the pride it takes to be a known name in the industry. An increased sense of confidence in your work [if it gets sold, of course ;)] and connection with the masses serves as a boost for your morale as well as your ego. These ingredients serve to boost your spirits that reduce in intensity as time progresses. You could be in your highest spirits when you start the book-writing process, and as you face the realities of this industry especially with the publishing part, your spirit could take a downward spiral if you aren’t stoic enough to take them in your stride. Book writing isn’t easy, but at least you are on your own. It’s an independent activity, whereas book publishing isn’t about one person and his thoughts. It’s about an interaction between two or more parties - an author, publisher, a book agents (in many cases), and other intermediaries. Even if you opt for indie publishing, it’s not that simple. Book Publishing An activity that involves more than one party is bound to have conflicts due to difference of opinions, and to match the requirements of the book agent, publisher, and readers is a big challenge. You may put all your real, imaginary, or forged ideas and experiences into your book and even appreciate it. But, alas! The success of your creation is in the hands of the other parties, namely, the publisher and the readers. Convincing a publisher to bring your book to market and rest nicely on the shelves is a big challenge. And you can accomplish this in no other ways than drafting a super-duper, highly impactful manuscript. Often, many writers confuse making good contacts with making too many contacts. Making too many contacts is good, but making good and relevant contacts is what will fetch you success for your book. If you don’t have the eye to recognize the useful from the useless, involve a book agent in the process. A sharp and experienced literary agent can tell you what book publishing companies you need to pitch your manuscript to. A thorough search on the internet will fetch you a long list of book publishing companies to your liking. So, that’s an easy way to access an abundance of information available online and make your contacts strong and wide in the publishing industry. If you thought success was easy across the national boundaries, you are living in an illusory world. It is even tougher to approach global publishers in order to convince them to publish your book. And for that you need to have the content that appeals to the global readers and a knack to communicate with the global publishers. Being professional helps in this industry! Don’t err by thinking that this industry has a haphazard system of working. In fact, it is quite organised and professional. Though the entry barrier has been lowered considerably, not everyone has the luck for a long stay here.
