Lille, one of the largest and most urbanized cities in France, is also one of the best tourist spots in the world. It boasts of a variety of spectacular sites that are more than just candy to the eyes. From museums to amusement parks to wines and food to culture, Lille is certainly a beauty that you should experience while in France.

Palais des Beaux Arts
Palais des Beaux Arts or the Lille Palace of Fine Arts was constructed in the early part of the 19th century. The construction of this museum was part of France's efforts to popularize art. This was one of several museums that were used to receive confiscated artworks from churches and from territories occupied by the French army during the French Revolution. Among the many works of confiscated art that are housed here are paintings, sculptures, and drawings of world-famous artists, names of which include Rembrandt, Jacques-Louise David, Gustave Courbet, Auguste Rudin, Donatello, and Raphael. The different works of art displayed in the galleries of this museum can give you a peek of what life was like during the French revolution.
Apart from Palais des Baux Arts, you might also want to visit Musee d'Art Moderne and Musee des Beaux Arts de Nantes.
Citadel de Lille
Citadel de Lille is a piece of artwork created by Vauban, a military designer and engineer known for creating fortresses and bastions. This fortification was Vauban's masterpiece, making him one of the most respected military engineers during his time. Shaped like a star, the citadel is not just a fortress; it is also a self-contained town, with its own park and zoo. Visiting this well-known tourist destination in Lille is well worth your time, but you would have to make arrangements for a guided tour first if you intend to make a stopover here as no impromptu visits are allowed.
Vieille Bourse
The Vieille Bourse or Old Stock Exchange building in Lille is a stunning work of art that every visitor will surely appreciate. Its extensive ornamentations make it the most beautiful construction in the city. The building was constructed sometime in the 1600s and originally housed salesmen and traders. Now, it has become a commercial center and a haven for tourists, with its florist stalls, bookshops and remarkable tourist lures.
