Head to Sydney for a sizzling New Year. While the rest of the world celebrates New Year in the freezing cold of winter, in Sydney clear blue skies and warm ocean breezes usher in the coming year. With Sydney being one of the first cities to ring in the New Year, millions flock to Sydney Harbour to enjoy the spectacular celebrations and glittering fireworks. The evening kicks off with a preshow entertainment which includes an air show over Sydney Harbour and water displays by fire tugs. This is followed by a cleansing ceremony by the indigenous aborigines who smoke eucalyptus leaves to rid the harbour of any negative spirits. The city pays respects to theAboriginal culture and heritageand the relationship the traditional custodians have with the land with the Acknowledgment of Country ceremony. Red flares from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and fireworks barges signal the completion of the ceremony. The Sydney Bridge is the focal point of the entire celebration and is lit up to reflect the annual theme. The pylons of the bridge also burst to life with theme images projected throughout the evening. Sydney proves its child friendly reputation by providing two sets of fireworks. The first is set at 9 pm mindful of children’s bedtime. The family fireworks display is a pyrotechnic wonder with flares flying from barges and several rooftops. The theme of the fireworks and the Harbour Bridge effects are a closely guarded secret that is only revealed during the festivities. At the stroke of midnight Sydney rings in the New Year with a bang accompanied by a breathtaking fireworks display. The night sky seems to dance and groove right along with revelers as they party on. A highlight of the evening is the Harbour of Light parade at Sydney Harbour. It features dramatically lit vessels sailing a fixed 15 km route around the harbour. The vessels are chosen from design entries submitted earlier and will be decked up to represent the theme of the event. The Parade will include tall ships, Sydney’s Heritage Fleet, commercial charter vessels and Sydney Ferries. There are several vantage points around Sydney harbour where people can view the fireworks display and Harbour of Light parade. Many of the sites provide services like toilets, first aid, food and drink. Also, a number of these vantage points are ticketed events. A clever way to avoid the mad rush at these vantage points is to join a cruise and take in the sights from the spacious and luxurious deck of the vessel. Official Harbour of Light Parade vessels are given access inside the Harbour exclusion zone on Sydney New Year’s Eve. Passengers onboard will be privy to the best locations to view the 9pm Family fireworks, the stunning Bridge Effect and Midnight Displays. Many of the boats also offer a lavish dinner on board. New Years Eve harbour cruises on official Harbour of Light Parade vessels are sold out months in advance and cost anywhere from $400 to $750 per person. Book early to avoid being disappointed. It’s your turn now to celebrate the arrival of New Year in a unique venue. Click here to book your tickets to enjoy the NYE to its most.
