Kitchen cabinets are always exorbitantly priced. It is really difficult to find cheap kitchen cabinets since the whole process from buying to installation is done by manufacturers and retailers, which is why their services are priced heavily. If one wants to save some money, then there is a need to be sure of the type of material and services that one wants to avail. How to select wisely It is good to make a choice about the material for the kitchen cabinet. Though wood cabinets are more appealing, they are highly priced as well. On the other hand there is MDF or Medium Density Fibreboard which is often used in budget friendly furniture. But one limitation of using this material is that it would not last long, because no matter how much care one may take with the kitchen cabinets to avoid water contact or humidity, the MDF cabinets will eventually go out of shape and sag. Types There are usually three types of kitchen cabinet design: stock, semi-stock and custom. Each style has different features in drawer quality, type of wood, construction and finish. Most of the home improvement or renovation store has stock cabinets. They are readily available and do not have to be ordered. A good idea would be to wait for the seasonal sales for purchasing them and with a little creativity one can add crown moulding give these cabinets a high end appearance. Semi stock cabinets have to be ordered beforehand at the improvement centre and would take about a month or so to arrive. These cabinets are available in standard size like the stock cabinets. The front portion is made of wood and the sides are made of good quality plywood. Drawers made of solid wood and thicker plywood for the sides would ensure longer cabinet life. Custom cabinets are made of solid wood and are available in any size and color. They are not readily available and are made only after placing the order. The door construction can either be of wood or tin. These cabinets are usually high on budget. One can ask the kitchen cabinet makers to make the sides of the cabinets with engineered wood because that would reduce the price. There is yet another style of cabinet known as the thrift store cabinet, which are usually left over items and are donated by builders or homeowners. Naturally these items are usually within the budget. Recycling of old cabinets is essential. They can easily be donated and put to re-use. Remodelling cheap kitchen cabinets with style and personalizing them with distinctive finishes could make them look unique.
