How Customer Service Is Helping Education In UAE

Education,Non-Profit Organizations
A Muslim country is always regarded as a place with strict values, reserved society and a perfect set of rules, the worst image that can be portrayed is shown through media and the world is lead to believe a different story. That being said I am proud to say this is no longer the case now and UAE is a shining example of it. From versatile cultures and being home to different nationality holders, UAE has it all for everyone. The new exotic is to visit UAE in Middle East and go through the souks, learn the art of bargaining and visit the most luxurious hotels in just one place. Arabian Desert is no longer a myth or a forbidden place to visit rather with perfectly equipped jeeps (if you are into modern transportation) and camels (if you prefer it the traditional Sheikh style) you can travel and see the untouched beauty of the sand spread on miles of land yourself.

Have you wondered how this all was possible in a place with perfect set of rules, and reserved thinking? Where women were kept within the four walls of the home, or where opening up to new things was not appreciated. The story starts with the city of Al Ain in Abu Dhabi 1976, where the first university was started United Arab Emirates University. Since then, the country has never had a downfall, unjustified views or harsh criticism. 1983 opened up Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies (EIBFS) to help with the professional study for the banking and finance sector. In 1988 four more higher education colleges were opened and later American University in Dubai opened its door in 1995. Not leaving the women behind, Zayed University for Women opened its campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in 1998.

By the year 2005-6 12 more campuses and several international universities like Tufts University, George Mason University in Ras Al Khaimah, Michigan State University and Rochester Institute of Technology in Dubai made UAE a place to study and relax. Royal Australian College in 2008 merged with Gulf Medical University founded in 2008 to open up new programs and student exchange opportunities. But the growth was not yet finished or slowed down. The first Dubai Knowledge Village opened in 2003 which is based at the Dubai Internet City. The campus serves as a hub to training centers, e-learning opportunities, research and development and a place for International Universities to explore UAE. 16 Universities participated in the Village including Mahatma Gandhi University, India, Manchester Business School and Saint-Petersburg State, University of Engineering.

The literacy rate from the 90’s has been raised to a staggering 91% and this is just keeping on growing. The federal government spends about 25% of its total spending on education not just to improve it only for the locals but for the expats that seek education in Middle East with standard and quality. Both the genders are equally promoted and inspired to join schools and colleges so that every citizen is well equipped in knowledge. Through a UNDP’s Millennium Development Program called “Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women” gender equality is promoted and the program was successful in reaching its target of having females enrolled into primary education. Education Minister Humaid Mohamed Al Qutami strongly believes and we quote

“We are committed to provide the best educational Services, by the highest standards and practices with distinctive quality to achieve your satisfaction”

With the education industry spending huge amounts of money to be the best in the world, the need to focus on customer service is important as well. Yes, customer service is one of the most important driving factors for the Education Industry. Although some would prefer to disagree slightly but I strongly believe customer service is present in every industry you come across. The moment a parent or a student steps into the premises of an educational institute the customer service from that first smile your employee gives begins. Customer service in the education sector works in a mysterious and yet open way, the student who walks himself is also a customer and the parent who visits the meetings, games and events is also the customer. So the pressure to please and make your customers comfortable is raised several notches.

Now to explain and dive further into customer service with the education industry I would say, there are some set particular rules which educational institutes in UAE are firm upon. That is a good keeping in mind the growth and discipline of an institute, however that does not work all the time. Sometimes the rules and regulations have to see exceptions, why because this not only presents an image of accommodating students and parents but also shows to the world that Middle East is not as harsh in rules as it may seem. Making certain exceptions and not all will help your educational institute rise above and set an example for the rest to be slightly flexible and yet practice discipline.

Now the exact work of an Educational Institute in European countries is not just limited to studies and knowledge but goes much more beyond it. They have counseling sessions for personal life’s, for careers or for any other matter that might disturb a student. A well performance check is maintained on all students and while the upcoming and constantly growing ones are appreciated the weaker ones are always backed up and motivated. Educational Institutes in the western and European Countries try to make a complete person out of a student, one that is well versed, well-educated and is prepared for life in real. This however is about 50% different than UAE and needs some amending to be implemented. UAE being a Muslim country has certain laws and regulation regarding the religion, now an International Educational Institute can see by which practice certain rules can be broken and avoided that altogether.

This would be customer service from an Educational Institute walking several steps up, making sure they accommodate both Muslim and Non-Muslim students. Respecting the wishes of the parents and working with them to bring the best out to their child. I strongly believe that with these new reforms being implemented in UAE with the Educational Institutes we would soon be seeing proper professional young generation marking the world. The world has big hopes set for UAE and every eye is waiting to be the witness of something spectacular from Middle East.
