When I started to compete in virtual racing, and had some conversations with some folks about driving wheels, there were just one company that everybody were talking about - Logitech. This days it is different as Thrustmaster really is a top notch tech enterprise. With their Thrustmaster t500rs wheel usual virtual racers got the best possible driving wheel that is on the market. Only problem of it? Price. The wheel that is mentioned in this article was released on the market in 2011 along with Grand Turismo 5 game. The Thrustmaster T500RS Racing wheel is possibly the best gaming driving wheel simulator device in the world, arguably better than even worlds famous Logitech G27 Racing Wheel. However, it is also twice the price of the G27 wheel. So what makes this piece of the technology gaming gear so good, special and pricey? Well first thing that stands out is the material of which the thing is built of. It is supported by brushed metal spokes, and it is sequential gearshift paddles which are also metal. All three pedals are completely metal, wheel itself is rubberized and 12 inches deep. Just the wheel weights almost 7 kilos and when we add other kit that comes with the wheel we get very serious weights of 18 kilos. The steering has 1080 degrees of rotation that allows three full turns, impressive right? It also has "HallEffect AccuRate Technology," so it uses magnetic 3D sensors to eliminate steering friction and deadzones. I drove with this racing wheel just a couple of time, yes opportunities are rare, because my wallet is not thick enough for me to afford it, so I really took my opportunity seriously. From the information that I get by reading about this wheel, I knew that it will provide me the biggest possible feel of realism, but I really didn't expect the feeling that I got. Because of huge screen and Grand Turismo 5 game in in compatibility with this driving wheel, I actually really thought that I'm on a realistic road. I had complete control of the car and I felt every inch of it. You can feel the power of the cars and the difference of it. When we want to change wheel settings we have to do it old school way. You just go into a wheel's control panel and change it there. If you are used to drive with Fanatec wheels, that can be a bit annoying, as most of their famous wheel products have display and do offer tuning-options during driving, but as said before, with Thrustmaster you don't have that option. Anyway that is just minor problem and most racing wheels still have that type of settings changes. So what to say in the conclusion of this short wheel preview? One thing is for sure. This wheel is probably the most advanced product ever offered in this price range. If you are a big racing enthusiast that attends a lot of online races in games such as F1 Game 2012 this wheel is just the right and the best possible one for you.
