Expands Recall Of Soybean Sprouts Due ToPossible Health Risk Contact: Consumer 301-802-2996 or, 804-786-3520 Media Mr. Soo Park 301-802-2996 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 30, 2012 - Henry"s Farm Inc. is expanding the recallof its Soybean Sprouts, to include Natto Soybean Sprouts, becausethey may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organismwhich can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections toindividuals with weakened immune systems. Although healthyindividuals may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever,severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea,Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths amongpregnant women. The initial date of the recall was April 27, 2012 The following products are being recalled by the firm. All clear plastic packages containing 1.5 lbs. Grown in NaturalSpring Water Soybean Sprouts. The packages were not coded. All bulk (approximately 10 lbs.) plastic bags of Soybean Sprouts.The packages were neither coded nor labeled. All clear plastic packages containing 1 lb. Grown in Natural SpringWater Natto Soybean Sprouts. The packages were not coded. These items were distributed to retail stores in Virginia, Marylandand Washington D.C. The contamination was discovered after sampling by VDACS FoodSafety and Security Program. Subsequent analysis by the VirginiaDivision of Consolidated Laboratory Services revealed the presenceof Listeria monocytogenes in the products. No illness has beenreported to date. Individuals who purchased Soybean Sprouts distributed byHenry"s Farm should return the product to the place of salefor a full refund.
