Skilled Occupation List Of Australia 2013 enlists the available skilled occupations in Australia which the immigrants can apply for. The SOL ‘Skilled Occupation List’ comprises of 4 major groups i.e. Managers, Administrators, Associate professionals and Tradespersons. SkillSelect goes on to administer the immigration process based on a points based assessment criteria. The applicants are required to express in EOI ‘Expression of Interest’ along with a mention of their pick on the SOL. Based on the points and the corresponding standing on the merit list, SkillSelect sends invitations to the immigrants to discuss their employability as per the SOL. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship have kept the immigration policy responsive to the economic needs of the nation. It makes a clear statement that the influx of overseas skilled migrants will be managed only as per the availability of jobs at different sectors and the regional areas of Australia. The State and Territory governments have a clear mandate to periodically browse through the sector wise demand on local level and accordingly make a recommendation on the SOL. The collective recommendations in the form of SOL are made available on the SkillSelect for the immigrants to make a choice. The list is clearly a reflection of Australia’s current, emerging and the future requirements on workforce skills. The Skilled Occupation List on SkillSelect has however made certain amendments with the current year i.e. 2013. In past the list covered a total of 400 occupations from the entire geography but the present list include a total of 181 occupations. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship has omitted a few of them such as Chef, Cook, Pharmacist, Graphic Designer and Hairdresser. The emphasis is on keeping technocrats on the list for example Software Engineers, Motor Mechanics, Accountants, Medical Professionals, and Architectural Engineers etc. The new Skilled Occupation list 2013 intends to have a tight focus on the General Skilled Migration for creating a high-value talent pool. The list now focuses on specialized occupations that demand a long process on formal education and training. The SOL comes as outcome to the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations ‘ANZSCO’ which identifies occupations of high value, technical know-how and nation building capabilities. The intention behind is to acquire talent which is scarce, costly, in-demand, diligently acquired, academic and intelligence intensive. Skilled Occupation List Of Australia 2013 is applicable for the points-based skilled migrants who come under State or Territory sponsored program or a State Migration Plan. The SOL also goes on to fill the void on manpower requirement at the regional level. The State governments can now nominate the applicants based on their local demand on skills and qualifications. The supply of skilled workforce becomes more customized to the local demand on the type and quality of manpower. The list also helps the immigrants to have a better understanding of what educational and professional skills are required to make it to the list and accordingly make an application.
