A brace of would-be Republican vice-presidents had their hatsthrown into the ring Sunday as the race to get on the Mitt Romney ticket heated up. But the White House hopeful appears to be in norush to knock on either man's door. Rick Santorum , the man who came closest to challenging Romney grip on thenomination before dropping out, told ABC's This Week he would"answer the call," should his former sparring partner come lookingfor him. "I wish governor Romney the best, and I'll do whatever I can to behelpful to him," Santorum said. Santorum's attitude has come a long way since April when he wrote to voters in Iowa warning : "It truly frightens me to think what'll happen if Mitt Romney isthe nominee." The former Massachusetts governor "presents zero contrast withBarack Obama on the major issues of this election", Santorum addedthen. Meanwhile, George P Bush, the nephew of president George Bush, grandson of President Bush Sr and son of Jeb Bush , said his father would also take that call. "If called upon toserve, he will," the 36-year-old told the Washington Post. Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor, had at one point been seenas a potential 2012 Republican presidential candidate, but he optednot to take part in the race. "In his hearts of hearts, it just wasn't there. He's enjoying doingwhat he is doing now, like spending time with my mother," his sontold the Post. "He loves to fight for conservative causes, and there are otherways to help, whether it is as vice president or not," he said. George P Bush said his father was "not currently interested" in thevice presidential slot, but would take it if pressed. Romney, however, seems to be looking elsewhere. Florida senatorMarco Rubio, Wisconsin's Paul Ryan and Ohio's Rob Portman top manypundits' lists of Romney's likely picks. Although when it comes to the actual nomination at the Republicannational convention in Tampa this August, whoever he picks lookscertain to face opposition from another one of Romney's fallenrivals. Ron Paul, the last Republican candidate to suspend his campaign, israllying his supporters ahead of a final push at the convention. It has Santorum rattled. "I am concerned that Ron Paul and some of his supporters out thereare looking for a platform fight. And I want to make sure that wehave strong, principled conservatives there, who stood with me inour primary fight, to go there and counterbalance the effect of thePaul folks," Santorum said.
