Don’t be afraid to use lures up to 80mm in length if need be, as I’ve witnessed plenty of good bream and small bream for that matter, smash into oversized lures in windy conditions. So the basic idea is to start as small as practical for the situation you find yourself in – then step up in size if need be. In some cases that may mean starting with a big lure. Quite a broad spectrum of lures, ranging from surface, to deep sinking types will catch bream in creeks or rivers. However, snags, depth, current and time of day are all issues to consider. A lot of creeks are quite snaggy due to plenty of fallen trees along the banks, manmade structure or rocks. So it makes no sense to start with lures like sinking metal vibes that simply won’t last too long in this sort of environment. Certainly, there are many areas in some creeks that are relatively snag free, so small metal lures can do quite well in such places.
