Braintree Printing, one of New England s leading offset anddigital printing companies, has expanded its finishing capabilitieswith the addition of a rebuilt Heidelberg die cutter. The newlyacquired die cutter enables Braintree Printing to keep every facetof production in-house, from pre-press to printing and finishing,ensuring quality control and passing savings on to customers. Braintree, MA (PRWEB) May 29, 2012 Braintree Printing , a leading offset printing and digital printing company servingprinters and print brokers throughout the Northeast, continues toadd to its fleet of bindery and finishing equipment with theaddition of a Heidelberg cylinder die cutter with a maximum sheetsize of 21 x 28 . Formerly a vintage letterpress, the Heidelbergwas completely dismantled and refurbished as a die cutter by Whittenburg, Inc. of Tennessee.
Jim Corliss, owner of Braintree Printing, said the convertedHeidelberg die cutter will be used primarily to manufacture 9 x12 pocket folders. We have seen a large increase in the numberof customers requesting folders for presentations. In the past, wehad to send these projects out to another die cutting vendor. Nowwe can keep the jobs in-house, saving time on our end and resultingin less cost for the customer.
According to Corliss, Braintree Printing has tripled the size ofits bindery and finishing department in the past five years by adding nine new pieces of equipment.These include folding, laminating, perfect binding, trimming, andcoating machines. In addition to the converted Heidelberg,Braintree Printing also has a Morgana Autocreaser capable ofscoring and perforating. Corliss said the Heidelberg installation was performed by GraemeSmith, a Heidelberg cylinder engineer from Whittenburg. Accordingto Whittenburg rebuild specifications, the machine was fullydismantled, cleaned, mechanically inspected and given new parts.
Itwas then reassembled, rewired, retimed and fitted with a new safetyguard, metal foot board and side table. Though rebuilt as a diecutter, the former classic printing press retains its yesteryearcharm. Freshly painted traditional Heidelburg blue, it bears ametal plaque with the words Original Heidelberg Cylinder. The converted Heidelberg on our plant floor gives a nod to theprinting industry s rich history, said Corliss. This oldprinting press now looks and runs like new with a second life asa die cutter.
