When you have a new iPhone, there is a good chance that your unit is locked to the network that you bought it from. This simply means that the phone will not function if you try to put another network’s sim in it. Mobile companies claim that they do this practice of locking phones because the units are already heavily subsidised and that they need to make up for that deficit. They sell the phones at a reduced cost but gains profit by ensuring that users make use of their services. The network providers therefore use these locking mechanisms to guarantee that users patronize their services. However, unlocking your AT&T iPhone is much better to optimize your device. Unlocking vs Unblocking Many believe that it is illegal to unlock AT&T iPhone. This is a common misconception that many service providers fail to dispel. It is not surprising though those companies do not dismiss this notion as doing so would mean losing their leverage. The confusion as to the legality of the action may arise because unlocking is often associated with unblocking. The words may be often mixed up but they mean two different things. To unlock simply means making your device work with other sim cards. This is totally legal. To unblock, on the other hand, is to make the phone work again even after it has been blocked by the network because it was reported lost or stolen. This is what’s illegal and should never be done. Warranty is another Story While AT&T iPhone unlocking is perfectly legal, what happens with your warranty is another story. Unlocking your phone will immediately invalidate its assurance of quality. Thus, you run the risk of being responsible with whatever happens to your unit during the supposed warranty period. This may be the only disadvantage that unlocking has. Advantages outweigh the Disadvantage Your warranty may be lost but you are presented with many advantages once you go for iPhone unlocking. First, you can enjoy the promotional deals that networks offer. They usually give free sim cards that come with free text and calls. If your phone is locked with one network, chances are you will never enjoy perks similar to this. Second, you will enjoy cheaper rates. Since you can use your phone with other sim cards, you can select a network that offers better tariff. Having your own device will also enable you to score cheaper rate from a service provider. Third, communication while on travel will also be much easier when you unlock your phone. You can totally avoid expensive overseas rates by buying a local sim card of the place you are visiting. Fourth, unlocked phones are get better price when resale them. They have expansive appeal to users of other networks or even those residing in other countries.
