Tips in Handling College Application Rejection

Education,Ezine Publishing
Transition from high school to college is a pleasing and life-changing experience. It is deemed a transforming stage in one’s life since you have got to choose the major to take and the college or university to apply to. The college application process is what many senior high school graduates are concerned and even fear about.

A number of students are afraid of getting the feared rejection letter with the big “NO” in it.Of course, it can be truly frustrating and some of you might even get entirely despirited to the point that you lose hope and would want to give up on you college plan. Well, that isn't the proper way to handle rejection! We must accept the fact that at times in our lives, we get turned down and not all things we like will be granted to us.

You just need to deal with the rejection in a light way and consider it as a challenge for you to persevere. You can read below some effective ways to help you handle with college application rejection.

1.) This is a start of a new journey not the end of the world. Being rejected from the university you applied is normal. Most if not all college applicants get refused and this rejection can be real blessing or an eye-opener for you to apply in another school.

Examine carefully the rejection letter and understand every detail on it. They might have explained the issues for the rejection or other requirements/options for them to give you application another chance. Be sure that you don't overlook any vital detail in the letter.

2.) You can always re-apply and transfer. Failing to pass the application process from your dream college doesn’t mean you don’t have a chance to get accepted. Bear in your mind that you got chances to re-apply and shift the following semester or next year. Certainly, there are lots of different higher education schools that you can undergo the college application process.

Do not focus on just a single or few educational institutions, open your mind to the idea of getting much better in another university.

3.) Deal with it the same way you handle a love split up. It is a common thing to cry and feel disappointed when you get turned down but don’t dwell on it too long and doing nothing or being desperate. Be sad for a couple of hours or days then move on and submit more applications to higher education schools you believe matches your skills, intellect and qualifications.

4.) Research and list universities you plan to apply. Submit applications in numerous colleges and not just one or two. It would be best for you to write first the different educational institutions you are interested in submitting an application. Include as well the positive and negative reasons you can find and learn upon research about these universities so you can understand well if the university is worth the effort or not.

5.) Getting listed on the “waiting list” is a wonderful opportunity. Some educational institutions and universities got a waiting list which gives student applicants a chance to get accepted. Ask ahead and learn if there is a chance for you to get included in the waiting list despite of receiving a refusal letter.

6.) Reassess on what you really want in a school – list them. Changing minds is a common thing especially among teenagers. It is most likely that what you want today may not be what you want in the next few months. Decide carefully and determine what skills and qualities you have and then list the schools that you believe fits you. Take into account your aspirations, goals as well as your likes when deciding on the course to take and school to enroll to. If at some point during college you realized you want to change majors then go ahead think thoroughly and apply to a new one.

7.) Being able to get a college education is already a huge achievement. Consider yourself to be one lucky man to be able to get into higher education. Even if you don’t get enrolled in the top three colleges you applied, never lose hope but instead try enrolling in a community college or if not you can re-apply next year. However, it is ideal not to let time pass by so consider applying to a community college.

8.) Don’t undervalue or neglect scholarship grants. Never think twice about grab a university scholarship grant that you find. Higher education can be costly and having a scholarship grant to help you with the expenses can be a big help to you and your parents. Inquire ahead of time on what scholarship are being offered by schools, the government or other organizations. Higher education is important and worth investing your time, money and effort.

9.) Don’t take it personally. Avoid saying negative comments about the school that rejected your application. Keep in mind that they are not rejecting you just your college application. It is possible that there is something missing in your application which made them come up with a decision not to accept you. If the application process involves an interview, then you should do and show your best so they can get to know you more. Visit this site for more info on college admission, scholarship, application and a lot more.

10.) Find someone to pour in your thoughts and emotions.Every time you are down, you would want someone to be around to comfort you and encourage you to rise up and move on. Pour out your sadness or emotions to someone close, maybe your best friend, your mother, sister, father or classmate. These people can give suggestions that can help you decide on what course of action to take after getting refused by the school you applied to.More importantly, never give up on your dream of finishing higher education.

There are many methods to handle a rejection and push through college as long as you are always optimistic, patient and determined.
