Planters, buckets, tubs and other container pots make a suitable basin for a fountain, as long as the pot is water tight. Even if the container pot as a crack or drainage opening, you can seal it to enable the pot to hold water. Build a container pot fountain to fit on a patio table top or to stand in your yard using the same basic techniques; the materials will vary based on the height of the water flow from the pot to the top of the fountain and on any decorative elements you choose to include in the design. Instructions as follows: Firstly, cut a disc from a sheet of rubber that is slightly larger than the drainage opening in the container pot. Slice the disc halfway across the center. Fit the cut in the disc over the section of power cord attached to the submersible fountain pump. Slide the disc down the cord, 2 inches from the pump. Secondly, place the pump inside the container pot. Fit the plug through the container pot's drainage opening so that the rubber disc fits over the opening. Glue the disc over the opening with silicone sealant. Apply a line of silicone around the outside perimeter of the disc, around the cord and along the sliced rubber. Allow the sealant to dry. Thirdly, fit the fountainhead extension over the small spout on top of the submersible pump. Position the pump in the center of the container pot. Fourthly, but sections of wet floral foam with a serrated knife to fit around the inside perimeter of the flower pot. The foam should fit between the pump and the stone wall of the container. Place the foam into position inside the container. Fifthly, cut nine 20-inch strands of soldering wire. Form a 3- to 4-inch diameter, loose spiral loop on one end of each wire. Soldering wire is malleable and shapes easily with your hands. Fit a 1/4-inch diameter jump ring over the straight end of each soldering wire. Slide the ring around the first loop of the spiral so that it dangles at the bottom. The jump rings are the attachments for the crystal prism strands. Sixthly, insert the straight end of each wire into the wet floral foam; space the wires evenly around the perimeter of the container pot. The spiral sections at the top should face the outside of the pot. Seventhly, separate each of the three 3-foot long strands of crystal prisms into three strands each, for a total of nine strands. The crystals are joined on the strands by metal clips; use round-nose pliers to open the clips and separate the strands. Eighthly, hang the strands over the jump rings dangling from the soldering wire by the metal clips. Open the clips with the pliers, then close them around the jump rings. Ninthly, fill the container pot with water, up to 1-inch from the rim. When the pump is plugged in and running, the water will cascade out of the fountainhead in the center of the crystal strands. Place the fountain in the sun to fully appreciate the crystals.
