Batteries that contain liquid are known as flooded-cell or lead-acid batteries and are most commonly used in vehicles. Once the fluid level gets low enough to expose the lead plates in the cells, sulfation occurs -- a process that can render the battery useless. Sulfation is the formation of lead and sulfur crystals on the plates and walls of the battery. Instructions 1 Don safety gear; wear protective gloves and plastic goggles before refilling a liquid-acid battery. The liquid in the cells is highly acidic and will burn skin or clothes. 2 Remove the battery cell caps; most batteries have six. If the caps have a slot in the top, unscrew them with a flathead screwdriver and lift them off. If the caps push in place, slide the screwdriver under the edge of the caps and pry them out of the sockets a little before lifting them off. 3 Check the liquid levels in the cells. Look for a maximum fill level marker on the sides of the cell walls. If the liquid reaches the marker, the cell does not require refilling. If the liquid is below the marker, carefully pour distilled water into the cell until it reaches the marker. Do not overfill the cell, as room is needed for expansion. Repeat the inspection process with each cell and refill any cell with a liquid level below the marker. 4 Replace the cell caps. Push them into place, by pressing down firmly; if they are threaded, screw them loosely by hand and tighten with the screwdriver. Tips & Warnings Battery acid is dangerous and destructive when splashed on skin or clothing or into eyes. Wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment when working with acid-filled batteries. dm500 dm500 hd dm 500 hd Dreambox DM800 hd se with Wifi Dreambox DM800 hd se with Wifi Dreambox DM800 HD SE Dreambox DM800 HD SE dm800 hd se dm800hd se
