Tea is an amazing drink which has formed numerous rituals and cults around it. According to the statistics, in average a person drinks 15 liters of tea each month. An average Englishman has about 6 cups of tea a day, in China 1,3 million of people end their working day with a cup of this drink. Tea is one of the most popular drinks in the world. I guess there is not a single person in the world who doesn’t drink tea. Drinking and smelling tea is great, but most of us don’t know how to buy high quality drink. And that’s the very point where all problems start – instead of having a cup of a gorgeous drink we pour into the cup something that has nothing in common with tea. Before buying a box of tea, find out who is the manufacturer. If the label provides only the name of a distributor, you’d better not buy this product. The first thing to remember is that real tea can be delivered only from such countries as China, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Japan, Georgia, and Azerbaijan. It means that tea from the USA, Germany, Holland, Denmark etc. is re-export of Asian teas or a fake. That’s why specialist don’t recommend buying teas from non-tea countries. And don’t get seduced by phrases like “Made in China” or “Made in India.” Packages of real Ceylon tea must contain national lion symbol and the inscription says “Packed in Sri Lanka.” Firms in this country prefer controlling the process of producing tea from the very beginning till the end. If you View complaints, you will see that many customers have no idea about how good tea looks and tastes like and what all the abbreviations on packages mean. But, along with that, knowing the abbreviations simplifies the process of buying tea. Here are some main classifications of tea: T (Tippy) – leaf bud plus one upper leaf; G (Golden) – golden tea with many tips; S (Special) – selected tea; F (Fine) – tea has great smell and taste; SF – high quality; Classic – tea leaves were collected by hand; Orthodox – tea leaf was rolled by hand; CTC – tea leaves were collected by machine; Pure – tea of one sort, not mixed with others. Usually, this mark is put on high quality sort teas that have unique taste and fragrant characteristics; Blended – mixture of several different kinds of tea. Usually, blended tea consists of 2-3 sorts. When choosing tea, pay attention to the way it packed: the vessel in which tea is contained must be non-transparent; the leaves must be packed in a foil or polyethylene; the package must contain minimal amount of air (solid teas are stored in vacuum packages); when buying tea pay attention to strange smells – there must be none of them as leaves absorb all the smells. Buying tea is a real art, and knowledge and practice will definitely help you to become expert in this choosing this fabulous drink.
