One of the defining industries in the world is auto industry. Before, when people relied on horses for transport their effective commuting horizons were at best 3 or 4 miles. Any further than that and the horses were not suitable for a daily journey (Sure they may be able to take one 20 miles in a day but that is not a thing one would do daily.). The Locomotive stretched the horizons considerably but one was still limited to station and train routes and hubs. And then vame the automobile and in specific the mass produced auto, such as the model T Ford which suddenly opened up vast horizons for the common man. Now Motorcars are large collections of moving parts. All moving parts require lubrication to reduce wear but wear still occurs. They run on bearings and rubber, they turn via controlled enclosed explosions which generate heat which has to be eliminated, and so on. So there are so many jobs in the Automobile industry it is difficult to list them all. For the sake of being concise we shall talk about areas. The first area is of course manufacturing. Much of the manufacturing of autos is decentralized and out sourced. Designers and engineers come up with designs and then send out for most of the parts to be made elsewhere. For example body panels are made at one factory and the chassis, the wheels, the engine, the instruments and the window glass each are made elsewhere. Then these will be brought together at an assembly plant which puts it all together. At every part of this entire process there are a myriad of jobs all of which will progress from the menial to the highly skilled and within the factories manufacturers routinely run many different training programs to increase their workers skills. The second major area is of course is maintenance and repair. As mentioned above cars use lubrication to keep the parts that move against each other moving. Maintenance involves a regular changing of the lubrication plus various other filters and plugs which keep the engine running. The whole radiator heat exchange mechanism is another area that needs to be watched. Maintenance mechanics are trained though apprenticeships as well as academic courses that qualify them t work on specialized part of the engines. Now all of these are for the standard cars that have been in constant development over the last century. With modern engines and material the breakdowns that used to plague the Autos of even 20 years ago are now pretty much a thing of the past. There are high performance cars available on the market today where if one peers under the hood one sees a huge barrier more or less preventing any unqualified person from touching the engine. hybrid cars for sale and crossover cars are a whole newly developing area of automotive undertaking and nowadays a lot of training is going into the personnel whose job it is to keep these vehicles operating at optimal performance and where with timely maintenance by well trained service personnel will give trouble free motoring.
