I am a judgment referral professional that writes a lot. Because today was a Sunday, almost always the quietest working day in the week, and it was also yet one more silly Daylight Saving Time (DST) clock setting game time period in my office, I decided to write this opinion article on the subject of DST. First, it is not Daylight Savings Time, it's Daylight Saving Time, abbreviated as DST in this article. If I have my history correctly; Daylight Saving Time didn't start due to modern farm practices, or to help kids go to school in the morning. DST started in the USA from an order of the government, when World War 1 was raging. The goal seemed to be to conserve energy, during that challenge of manufacturing and production in wartime; by taking advantage of the later hours of daylight between April and October. In my opinion, a smarter and more common-sense alternative to Daylight Saving Time, both now and historically, would be to just modify some work, government, and school scheduling hours twice a year, to more closely match daylight hours. During World War 2, the federal government once again ordered states to comply with DST. After During World War, and until 1966, communities and states were allowed to decide whether to follow DST. Congress passed in 1966, their Uniform Time Act, that standardized DST through the USA and its possessions and territories; although it did not require individual states to comply with DST, however most did. In 2007, instead of abandoning the potentially silly DST; we instead got the "Energy Policy Act in 2005" (15 U.S. Code Section 260a). With few exceptions, this made DST mandatory nationwide, and increased DST's duration by 4 weeks. The asserted 2007 goal was once again to save energy. If it was my decision, I would have chosen to abandon DST, and move to "summer and winter hours" instead. Also, while Daylight Saving Time might have saved energy 80 years ago, I do not think Daylight Saving Time conserves any energy in modern times. Any energy that gets saved in the evening is lost in the morning and vice versa. Daylight Saving Time is not observed in some states and territories. Examples are Arizona (except some Indian reservations), Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the US Virgin Islands, and American Samoa. Note that the closer to the equator one is, the less difference there is in daylight hours throughout the year. Is the precise time of day consistently important to everyone anymore? When you need to interact with society and the outside world, it is. However, most of us no longer eat our lunch at exactly noon. We tend to go to the bathroom when nature calls, not when it's a certain time of day. In recent times, we tend to eat when we are hungry, watch TV when we decide to, etc. In recent times, almost everybody has more than one mobile devices, computers, and/or smart phones. Many people now use their mobile devices or smart phones as alarm clocks. Some homes with a bunch of mobile devices and computers which set their date and time automatically, have tossed out most of their clocks. Even when you no longer have any more stand alone clocks, DST is still a great time to verify the batteries in your smoke detectors, etc. Get judgments collected for a fantastic realistic price: http://www.JudgmentBuy.com - Judgment Recovery.
