Being a kid, there were a lot of games that we used to play. Regardless of place it was, we can still manage to play around with our friends. But I think we will all agree that most of our childish sports were played inside the confines of our school gymnasiums. Specifically during our Physical Education subjects, our instructors taught us a lot of ball games inside such premises. Sports such as basketball, volley ball and indoor soccer. But the game that I really liked most is playing indoor dodgeball. For me it is the best game ever developed for it combines the elements of excitement, surprise and good old fun! I could still clearly remember during our junior years that we used to play this ball game either in Northcote Indoor Sports Gym or in the Knox Indoor Sports Centre for they are the only ones capable of catering such ball game. But today there are already a lot of sports centers which offers similar services, but I personally believe that nothing beats the pioneers. In playing this very active game, one must prepare himself to engage in physical contact for it is inevitable. It is common practice that players should also have a warm-up session with their teammates to prevent any muscle sprain during the game. The game usually starts by selecting players for each team after which they will decide what variation of dodgeball they would like to play. Yes, you’ve read it right. There a lot of variation of this game and each of those types carries a unique experience and fun for their players and spectators. One of the famous variations of dodgeball is called “battleship dodgeball”. This variation of the game requires floor and wall pads especially if kids will be the ones to play. This is due to the very fast and active nature of this type of dodgeball. Pins are then placed on each corner of these mats which is also placed beside miniature ship wherein it holds four to five players, hence the name battleship dodgeball. The players will then try to knock out the ship of the opposing team by throwing balls at it. However, there is only one player from each team which is allowed to get off the ship and gather the balls for their team mates. These special players are not allowed to throw the balls at their opponents. The game is won if one the team will successfully “sink” the other team’s ship.
