Buying Designer Fabrics

Crafts
If you are going to sew a quilt, a bed skirt, a skirt, any something that you want to be proud of, then it is a good idea to buy designer fabrics. While you can buy fabrics at one of the chain fabric stores, you are more likely to have better success with designer fabrics. This is because designer fabrics are made for quilting and for quality sewing, so you do not have to worry about the material stretching, fraying, or getting torn easily.

If you want to find good quality designer fabrics, then it is a good idea to start by looking at a quilt shop. Quilt shops carry tons of designer fabrics because they are specialty shops. This means that they will not carry fabrics that you will find at chain stores. Instead, they will carry select lines of fabric that are in style. Another great thing about buying fabric at a quilt shop is that you can ask someone for help, and they are usually willing to help you match and find the fabrics that you need. You will not usually get this kind of personal attention at a chain store.

Another reason to buy designer fabrics is because they come in themes and colors. Most fabric designers choose a theme for each season, so you will find fabrics that correspond and that match each other if you want to buy multiple fabrics for a quilt or some kind of bed skirt. It is much easier to pick fabrics from the same designer and the same line because you will know that the colors will match perfectly.

Another great reason to buy quilting fabric is because they hold up better in the long run. If you hold fabric from a chain store, and then hold fabric from a quilt shop, you will notice a difference in the thickness of the material, the thread count, and you will also notice that the quilting fabrics are much nicer to look at. You can tell that they were made well, and you aren't getting a cheap piece of material that will fray as you sew it. Many people choose to shop at chain fabric stores because they can get fifty percent off one item, but this should not be your only reason for shopping at that store. It would be better to pay a few extra dollars to get what you really want at a quilt shop. You will also notice that designer fabric will hold up better when you wash it, which is great if you are making a blanket for someone. You should never make a blanket, quilt, or skirt for someone without assuming that they will wash the item at some point. Things get dirty, and they often need to be washed so that they can be used again.

If you are looking for good fabric to start a sewing project, make sure that you buy the best fabric possible. Sometimes even quilt shops will do discounts on fabric, so it is a good idea to see what kind of deals you can find in your area. You might be surprised that their prices are not quite as high as you thought, which is great if you need a lot of fabric. You can also buy the remaining supplies needed to make your designer fabric into something beautiful. Find matching thread colors as well instead of just using white. You will find that colored thread adds an extra pop of color that would otherwise be missing. Then you can turn your designer fabric into something beautiful that will make an impression on others.
