If you want to see one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World from the bottom up instead of from the top down (as is more traditional), you'll want to take a Grand Canyon float tour. Not every trip down the Colorado River involves shooting rapids and avoiding dangerous rocky outcroppings. What you might not realize is that the calmest waters in the area, actually offer some of the best sights in this National Park. Breathtaking Scenery There are many reasons to choose a smooth-water rafting trip rather than white-water rafting. While your adrenaline will pulse when you are going through the rapids, you will find that the breathtaking scenery of the canyon can be focused on in calm waters. Perhaps the biggest perk of the float tours is that you can take your entire family on them in the Grand Canyon. Not only will older people find them peaceful, but children as long as four will be welcomed on them. Something to keep in mind is that your experience will depend on the part of the river you are rafting. For the 1-day Grand Canyon rafting tour, you will start your journey up by the National Park in the Page area and then finish your day at Lee's Ferry. This will be a peaceful journey that ends on a lovely beach, after your three hour journey is done. While you are experiencing the scenery, you will have a chance to see the canyon walls and see some ancient Indian symbols inscribed on it firsthand. 4x4 Jeep Tour Visitors of the South Rim will find that they have two different choices for smooth water rafting. Your first tour will bring you to Page, AZ on a bus from the Grand Canyon National Park Airport. The other tour begins with a plane ride. After riding in a 4x4 Jeep through Antelope Canyon, the rafting portion of the tour begins. While this is a more comprehensive choice, you will need to note it will be a bit more than the first tour type. Las Vegas visitors can also take advantage of float tours down the river. With a trip that kicks off in a helicopter, travelers will then have a chance to begin their experience at the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. During this tour, you will be provided with a half hour exploration period of the canyon floor, before you are flown to the top of the canyon and then taken to the Hoover Dam on a bus. The boat dock used is located at the base of this dam. While on the river, you will have a chance to slowly float for about ten miles and finish at Willow Beach, Arizona. On the physical rafting tours, all participants must be at least 16 years old to participate. Most people book canyon rafting tours between June and August. It should be noted that those who can adjust their vacation will want to book between May and the early part of June if possible, or during September if they need to wait until later. What to Bring On your journey, make sure you are drinking lots of water and have on sunscreen. Before you book a rowing tour, make sure you can handle the physical demands. A motorized boat is going to give you a better chance to experience the beauty of the area and to avoid too much physical exertion.
