Eggs are a great source of protein and they can be enjoyed just about any time of the day. They're not just for breakfast anymore. But it you enjoy eating eggs, but you don't enjoy the process of cooking them, consider investing in an electric egg cooker. An electric egg cooker or poacher is a convenient appliance that can be used to cook the eggs you love in several different ways. Plus, since it's a self-contained appliance, an egg cooker can free up the stove top, oven or microwave for other items that need to be cooked at the same time. You can find the egg cooker that you are looking for, from an inexpensive cooker to the more luxurious boiled egg cookers in most stores that sell small kitchen appliances or you can easily shop online. The most basic model is the egg cooker or electric egg poacher. Sure if you are more of a traditional chef you can poach your eggs in simmering water. But that's not always the easiest option as it takes some effort and skill to use this method effectively. On the other hand, electric egg poachers will give you much better control over the water temperature and the actual cooking time of your eggs, taking most of the guesswork, and let's face it, nervousness, out of poaching eggs. Depending on your needs, there are plenty of sizes and designs of egg cookers each offering a variety of different cooking methods. Most of these are designed with an electric heating element that is encased in a base that can be filled with water. There will also be inserts or cups for steaming and poaching the eggs. Some egg cookers will also have flat inserts for making omelets as well as scrambled or fried eggs. The type of cooker that you select can be based on the amount of eggs you want to boil or poach. And you can also make a selection based on whether you want to be able to have different variations of hard or soft boiled eggs. Some cookers will allow you to cook more than ten hard boiled eggs at time. The cooking time in an electric egg cooker is generally controlled by the amount of water you add before placing the eggs into the cooker. Toaster egg poachers are actually two small appliances in one. You can toast your bread and poach your egg at the same time. Keep these features in mind when you're shopping an egg cooker: Make sure the cooker has an alarm. You don't want your eggs under cooked or over cooked. Look for a cooker with both a visual and audio alarm that goes off to tell you the eggs are ready. Easy cleanup is important. Lots of detail or curves make it difficult to clean in the corners. Depending on the mess, you may actually need an egg cleaner. Most of the newer models, however, have a non-stick surface that prevents the egg whites from sticking. If your model doesn't have that use some butter or cooking spray so that your eggs will slide easily out of the cup. Non-stick surfaces also help to avoid the risk of scratching or nicking the surface. The water capacity is important, so you want to make sure measuring is easy and you have the capacity that you need. Depending on the model, you might find other uses for your egg cooker, such as scrambling eggs, cooking meat or other foods, all the while keeping the top of your stove clear for other uses and making your overall meal preparation easier as you avoid switching back pots and pans.
