The Diamond League 100 metre women's hurdles competition in Doha onFriday will have a Canadian championships feel. Canadians Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, Perdita Felicien, PhyliciaGeorge and Nikkita Holder are entered in field in the seasonopening Diamond League event. The competition can be watched atCBCSports.ca at 12:30 p.m. ET. Current world champion Sally Pearson of Australia isn't in Qatar,but 2009 champion Brigitte Foster-Hylton of Jamaica will becompeting. Lopes-Schliep of Whitby, Ont., was second in the women's 100 metrehurdles at the Jamaica Invitaional last week in a time of 12.64seconds, behind only Foster-Hylton (12.51). It was a strong result for Lopes-Schliep, who gave birth to adaughter in September. She also finished third earlier last week ata meet in Guadeloupe, Mexico. Pickering, Ont., natives Felicien and Holder have their ownmotivations. The 2007 world champion, Felicien is looking to getback to the Olympics after missing the Beijing Games due to injury. Holder finished fourth in Guadeloupe last week, achieving theprovisional Olympic standard. George, from Markham, Ont., reached a Diamond League podium for thefirst time in her career last September. In other events, Jamaica's Asafa Powell facing his countryman NestaCarter and American Justin Gatlin in the 100. At a 2006 meet in Doha, Gatlin tied Powell's then-world record of9.77 seconds. His time was erased weeks later after Gatlin testedpositive for excessive levels of testosterone, which led to afour-year ban. Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce leads the women's 100field, which includes fellow Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown andAmerican Allyson Felix, a three-time world champion in the 200 andtwo-time winner in the 100 in Doha. Felix will be hoping a victory over Campbell-Brown can set her onthe way to a historic season. She is considering running the 200and 400 metres in London and wants a gold to go along with her twoOlympic silver medals. Campbell-Brown also welcomed the chance to face off against Felixagain, having beaten her at this distance in all five of theirmeetings. She will be looking for her third straight Olympic goldin the 200 in London. In the women's 800, Olympic champion Pamela Jelimo will be lookingto turn the tide on her fellow Kenyan Janeth Jepkosgei who hasbeaten her in the last six races. Olympic 5,000 and 10,000 champion Kenenisa Bekele is returning frominjury to run in the 3,000 and will be looking to show he'shealthy. Jelimo wants to build on her success at the world indoors, whereshe won the 800. Great things were expected of the Kenyan after shedominated the 2008 season and won gold in Beijing, but she hasstruggled with injuries. Bekele, too, is hoping his injury woes are behind him. TheEthiopian great who has three Olympic and 16 world titles to hisname said he hopes to run the 10,000 and 5,000 in London. He had adisastrous worlds last year, withdrawing from the 5,000 afterdropping out of the 10,000. David Rudisha, the 800 world champion and Olympic favorite, will belooking to set a season best in a field missing his main rivalMohammed Aman of Ethiopia, who pulled out.
