A complete guide for traveling to Shirdi

Travel & Tourism
Shirdi, in Maharashtra state is the pilgrim centre and a place where the great saint of Maharashtra Shri Sai Baba once resided. A small unknown village turned into a divine destination with the arrival of a small child who was observed playing under the Neem tree. The child was none other than Shri Sai Baba. He spent his life in Shirdi spreading awareness between the villagers and his followers to cross barriers of religions and serve the human society.

After reaching this place you can relax get refreshed then next day early morning attend the Kakad Aarti in the main Sai temple where there is Samadhi and a big idol of Sai Baba. The main attraction of Shirdi temple complex, Sai Baba temple, which was renovated in the year 1999, consists of Darshan Lane and Prasadalay. Gurusthan is the place where Sai spent most of his time when he was new to this place and where tomb of his Guru is located. Chavadi actually means village office storing records of the village. Sai Baba used to sleep in the Chavadi on alternate nights during the ending years of his life. Dwarka Mai is the place of worship and a respected place for the devotees. Located at the middle of the Sansthan complex, Dixit Wada museum is a small building preserving the rare black and white photographs and other many things which belonged to Sai Baba. Khandoba mandir is the great place which sheltered Sai Baba when he appeared for the first time here. Near to Gurusthan is Lendibaug the garden which Baba used to water himself.

Sanctity of the place, moderate climatic conditions of Shirdi and better transportation facilities invite more visitors throughout the year. Shirdi, in Ahmednagar district, can be easily accessed from Nashik, Mumbai or Pune. While coming from other Indian states it is advisable to reach Shirdi via Nashik. Thursday is supposed to be the important day here and pundits perform the rituals starting from Kakad Aarti or early Morning Prayer. So it is advisable to reach the pilgrimage city one or two days prior to Thursday. Once you land in Shirdi everything from best accommodations to a well equipped hospital built by the Sai Sansthan is available at your service. Since the place is buzzed by devotees throughout the year, it is advisable to book your hotel in shirdi before your arrival. Otherwise you can avail one of the many flexible tour packages to Shirdi and be sure about better travelling and accommodation arrangements at the destination. International tourists interested in visiting Shirdi can come to Mumbai International airport and from there they can take a Bus, Taxi, Train or domestic flight.

The Shirdi Sai Baba temple is considered as the richest temple in Maharashtra with record offerings in the form of money and gold. The temple complex is well maintained by the Sai Sansthan Trust, which is the authority looking after the routine working of the complex. Apart from the routine modes of travelling there are luxurious modes like travelling by helicopter to Shirdi from many places in Maharashtra. You will have to take permission from the Sansthan authorities for landing on their helipad. The sansthan also operates shuttle services from the Shirdi railway station to the main temple for the convenience of the devotees. Plenty of busses and taxis ply between the station and the temple complex. Other nearest railway station is Manmad which is fifty five km from the city. Even tourist cabs and A/C cars are available here. In short Shirdi is the must visit and convenient place to visit in Maharashtra.

So, ready to visit Shirdi? If yes, do book your accommodation in Shirdi hotel before arrival. Hotel Sai Sahavas is a perfect place to stay near sai baba temple.
