In 604 AD, Yangguang, China’s Suiyang Emperor killed his father and succeeded to the throne. He ordered Xue Daoheng, an official who was responsible for prosecution to investigate all officials. At that time, Xue Daoheng spoke highly of Jingsu, the Sima of Wei county. In the eyes of Xue Daoheng, Jingsu’s heart was as hard as stone even though he was old. Another minister called Yu Wen said that he wished that Jingsu would protect his relatives under his power, but Jingsu execute a crime on the spot. Therefore, in the past, when we described somebody’s heart is as hard as stone, we meant to say he is an impartial person, who insisted on the truth regardless of blood relationship. However, nowadays, when we say somebody’s heart is as hard as stone, we hate him and disapprove of his action. As the saying goes, there isn’t a door that you can not open it by a key. When some of our good friends or even our dear families do something bad to us, we will feel very upset and disappointed with them, and then we don’t know how to deal with them, because we love them so much. We are so helpless and burst into tears, for they are our vulnerability of our deep hearts. After countering them with a cooling thought, we smile to them and forgive them instead of being hard as a stone. Yes, we are fleshed-out humans instead of lifeless stone. Now I would like to tell you something about myself. Last month, when my mother was sick seriously in the hospital, I took good care of her every day and tried to satisfy her in all respects, however, one night I heard a conversation between her and my sister. In their eyes, I was mean and untalented. At that time, my heart was broken, for I had spent most of money on curing my mother. I doubted them and cried all night. Next morning, I left home and took a walk with my best friend. Unlike them, she understood me well and comforted me. As time goes, I choose to forget what happed. Maybe you will find that there are so many idioms in China for us to learn from, and they may change their original meaning as time goes on. Besides, we should use them reasonably according to different situations and people. Do you want to share more idioms about stone with me? If you do, you can know more about stones and get more information about stonebtb.
