The use of style sheet languages had been the most important tool in website development. However, did you know that before the use of style sheet languages, a popular HTML tag called Tables were popularly used before the era of styling languages? Starting with the Table HTML was originally designed as a semantic markup language intended for sharing scientific documents and research papers online. However, as the Internet expanded from the academic and research world into the mainstream in the mid-1990s, and became more media oriented, graphic designers sought ways to control the visual appearance of the Web pages presented to end users. Although this was the time in which Tables were used as means for controlling the elements found in a website, did you know that style sheet languages were first proposed as a tool to manipulate the design of the website. According to many web experts from different website development Manila, CSS was introduced in December 1996 by the W3C to improve web accessibility and to make HTML code semantic rather than presentational. Around the same time, in the late 1990s, as the dot-com boom led to a rapid growth in the 'new media' of web page creation and design, there began a trend of using HTML tables, and their rows, columns and cells, to control the layout of whole web pages. The reason why many chose to use Tables rather than style sheet languages, such as CSS, is because of the limitations at the time of CSS support in major browsers, the new web designers' lack of familiarity with CSS, as well as the lack of knowledge of, or concern for the reasons including HTML semantics and web accessibility to use CSS instead of what was perceived as an easier way to quickly achieve the intended layouts. Re-Introducing Style Sheet Languages However, the use of HTML Tables had caused a number of problems, particularly with bandwidth problems. Many Web pages have been designed with tables nested within tables, resulting in large HTML documents which use more bandwidth than documents with simpler formatting. Because of this, according to many web masters from different Web design Philippines, many web developers sought for ways on how to manipulate their website’s content without sacrificing bandwidth. This is when style sheet languages, such as CSS, were re-introduced in the market. And since then, CSS had become the most widely used tool in website development.
