Limit the amount of television your child watches each day. Too much television is bad for your child, mentally and physically. It is one cause of childhood obesity, can lead to poor eyesight, and contributes to feelings of anxiety. Have your child play with toys or go outside instead. Get your child into a daily routine and be consistent with it. This can help your child feel stable at home and with every day activities. Keep meal times, bath times and study times consistent. This will also help you stay more organized and helps to keep your day together. If your toddler is trying to climb out of his or her crib, lower the mattress if it is possible. This is because if a child is able to climb out of their crib, and they fall out, they could seriously injure themselves. Also, make sure to remove crib bumpers. Praise your children. Some parents are very good at focusing on the negative, but forget about the positive. When a child is praised it lets them know that their parents love and appreciate them. It also makes them more likely to repeat positive behaviors. Try to look for something to praise your child about at least once a day. Make sure that you make meal time fun for your toddler. This can involve cutting your foods into fun shapes, using many colors or textures, or using a fun plate to feed them on. This will encourage them to actually finish their meal when you sit them down to eat it. When your child is trying to explain to you something that has happened, allow him time to explain without interruption. He needs to know that you are here to listen to his whole story. When you give him a chance tell his side of the story his way, he will feel that you are supportive. An important part of parenting is the setting and enforcing of clear boundaries. Consistency is critical, so once a line is drawn on a particular behavioral topic, the consequences for crossing that line must always be upheld. By following this course of action, your child will have predictable rules under which to operate, and will always be aware of what is acceptable and what is not! Know your kid's friends and who they are hanging out with. This means having their parent's contact information and actually using it. If you build a network of parents who know each other and communicate, then you will have a group that you can turn to when you need to check up on your kids or seek out help.
