When looking at the snowflakes that fall from the sky every winter, it can often seem commonplace, if not mundane. One would find it difficult to find an artist that desired his or her work to be forgotten soon after completing their work of art, hence the use of long standing materials. The artistry of this craft lies in the ability to turn a seemingly insignificant material such as frozen water, and turn it into a snow show that garners awe and appreciation. It is a unique human ability to turn what is commonplace into what is magnificent, all for the sake of entertainment. Besides use in a snow show, ice and snow sculptures can be found in many everyday situations. Sculptures can be used to enhance a party by serving as a fanciful decoration, or to even make the presentation of a dish more appealing. It is increasingly common, for example, to find ice sculptures at wedding receptions or even a fancy buffet. The beauty of clear and clean ice carved into a shape of one’s choosing is universally seen as a beautiful sight, so it is no wonder many cities have taken to putting on a snow show.
