Thanksgiving is celebrated to worship and thank the god for all the blessing he has granted on us. Since ancient times, Thanksgiving is celebrated in America and Canada for various different reasons. But a common reason for this celebration is to thank the god for a good harvest. Usually, Thanksgiving is celebrated after the harvest to offer the god whatever is harvested and to spend some time together with family and friends after a long hard work. Thanksgiving celebration started in the year 1623. The pilgrims of Puritan sect traveled to North America to start a new life there. The Algonquin band of Wampanoag, who were the natives of North America, welcomed these pilgrims and provided them with shelter and the knowledge of agriculture and fishing. These pilgrims then invited the Algonquin band to share their first harvest. This was the first time Thanksgiving was celebrated. Later on, this festival was celebrated by offering the harvest to the gods whom these tribes worshiped. Thanksgiving teaches us to be thankful for all the things that we get. It brings people together and helps in spreading the awareness of thanking the god and people for whatever we get throughout the year. There are different prayers that are recited during or after the dinner during Thanksgiving. Following are some of the prayers for Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving Mealtime Blessings: The following prayer is often recited before the meal and praises the god for all the food, health, grace and strength he has provided us. “For food that stays our hunger, For rest that brings us ease, For homes where memories linger, We give our thanks for these. Amen.” Reciting this prayer helps us thank the god, expressing our gratitude and asking for blessings. Thanksgiving Dinner Prayer: The following prayer is recited after the dinner and describes our love, trust, and faith in the god. “Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for this special day, a day to remember Your goodness to us. I want to thank You for a roof over our heads, and more than enough food to eat. I want to thank You for the relationships You have given to us, for family and friends. Also, I want to thank You for all the bad experiences we’ve had. We have learned that you were there for us all the time. For this, we thank You and praise You. In Jesus name, amen.”
