I'm not a lawyer, I am a judgment broker. This article is my opinion, and not legal advice. If you ever need legal advice or a strategy to use, you should contact an attorney. Many judgment creditors have no clue to what a judgment is really worth to buyers of judgments who actually pay cash up-front for typical judgments. Most judgment owners avoid the truth when it comes to their judgment, and believe their judgment is guaranteed and/or are worth their face value. The reality is that judgment repayment is never guaranteed, and no judgments have ever been sold for more than a really steep discount off their original value. Some judgment owners squander time with flaky companies on the web, that boast "snake oil" false promises like "We pay up to 50% cash up front for judgments". Many judgment creditors waste an incredible quantity of time, shopping their judgment for a imagined and preconceived sale price. That's like visiting an auto dealer to purchase a brand new 2012 Honda CR-V, with a hard offer of a $10K cashier's check. An objective outsider would agree that it is a waste of time to go from dealer to dealer with your hard offer of $10,000, when no dealers would sell a new CR-V at twice that much. Imagine someone that wasted a huge amount of time visiting one hundred Honda auto stores with a $10,000 cashier's check, being turned down one hundred times. Doing that would be silly, yet that's close to what many judgment owners do, when they try to sell a 10K judgment for 5K cash up front, to one hundred possible judgment buyers. It doesn't matter how many buyers of a judgment you send that range of a cash up front offer to, as no buyers of a judgment will pay above the the actual cash up front judgment value. Average judgments sell for 1-7% cash up front, or for a future-payment of fifty percent, after a collection of any money from the judgment. When a debtor is wealthy, you can get better prices; however the price depends on factors beyond your wishes or control. What are some factors used to price real cash up-front judgment sales? Judgment debtors may die, go out of business, get sick, file for bankruptcy, work for cash, change their names, move, vacate the judgment, etc. These are many other factors which effect prices for cash up-front judgment sales, if a judgment is against people or a person: The age of the judgment debtor, the state they are living in, the county and state the judgment was issued, how common of a name the debtor has, whether the debtor has the same name as their parents and grandparents, if they are divorced, married, or owing or paying support, which assets they seem to own, the type of money they earn or receive, what debts they seem to owe, how many other judgments and liens are against them and the amount the other judgments and liens add up to, their bankruptcy story, the general (and local) economic situation, the health of the debtor, their drug or alcohol problems, criminal records, etc. When the judgment debtor is a company or business, there are many other factors that influence cash up front prices: The age of the company, their corporate status, the state they are registered in, the state and county the judgment was issued, how common a name the company has, if the business is owned by another entity, which assets the company appears to own, the type of business it is, the money they earn or receive, what debts they appear to owe, how many other liens and judgments are against them and how much the other liens and judgments add up to, their bankruptcy history, the general (and local) economic situation, complaints about the company, the size of the company, their web presence, etc. A judgment's cash up-front value depends on the factors above, and the judgment buying market. Any cash up-front judgment value has nothing to do with any judgment buyer, referral, or judgment broker; or the needs, wishes, wants, or conditions of the original judgment creditor. http://www.JudgmentBuy.com - where Judgments and debts quickly get enforced by an expert - matched expertly for free, to your debtor.
