To ask, “What is network marketing?” is to ask a loaded question surrounded by controversy. Simply put, it’s a business model that can allow a person to eventually grow a monthly check that they are earning without having to work for it. How does this happen? You sign up as a distributor in an MLM company and commit to making a certain minimum product purchase every month, and work on your business a certain amount of time. Then you find a few other people who are interested in doing the same, who in turn each find more people who want to do the business, and so on, with everyone supposedly committing to making a minimum monthly purchase and sponsoring more people into the business. You make a commission from the purchases of everyone in your group. As your group grows, so does your monthly paycheck. Ideally, you reach a point where you are no longer working, but your group keeps growing and your monthly commissions reach well into five figures. Financial freedom is therefore an obvious reason that people get involved with network marketing. But there is another reason that draws many people into it, and that is the ability to work on your business whenever you want. Even if you have a day job, you can usually find time to work this kind of business into your schedule. Are you a morning person? Then spend an hour or two in the morning working on your business. Are you a night owl? Then you’d probably enjoy talking to prospects after the supper hour. Stay-at-home moms can squeeze in time to work during naptimes, independent playtime, or the few hours during the weekly Mother’s Day Out. The reason this flexibility is such a draw is that it hold the potential of providing a full-time income working part-time hours. It also allows people with regular jobs to schedule their MLM work around their day jobs – which is difficult to juggle with traditional second jobs. Another attraction is that if you’re willing to build your business more slowly, you can work fewer hours than the usual recommendation of ten hours per week. No one is looking over your shoulder, forcing you to work a certain amount of time. When you ask, “What is network marketing?”, then, you might reply that it’s a business model that provides all the flexibility you need while allowing you increase your income.
