Almost everyone is familiar with the Superman mythos – a hero in blue tights and a red cape, soaring over the sky like a watchful angel. In the teen drama world of the television series Smallville, however, the younger Clark Kent has yet to don the outfit or even to start taking off from into the air. Even with the presence of his fellow Kryptonian cousin Kara, who will use and showcase the full suite of her powers, Clark himself will still remain grounded. The show's executive producer, Al Gough, has firmly reiterated their "No Tights, No Flights" plan for the season. In response to questions from fans on TV Guide, Gough explained that the young Clark would not yet be gaining full mastery of his powers. However, there would be training sessions with Kara in order to practice them, including flight. But in this case, Gough added, they would be more like falling lessons instead of flying lessons, at least at the beginning. Apart from mentor, Kara is also set to reveal more of Clark's alien past, providing information for him and illuminating his heritage from Krypton. Gough has stated that the tidbits she provides will tell about a "seriously screwed up" family. The planet Krypton was equally troubled as well, the producer added, which eventually led to its destruction. This season's focus will center on Clark trying to come to terms with his alien bloodline as opposed to his human upbringing on earth. Also heavily featured will be his romance with Lana, which as fans of the comics know all-too-well, is eventually fated to be doomed. Gough stated that Lana is his first true love, and fans will see how their mistakes and he tragic circumstances surrounding them eventually lead their relationship to fail, with Clark moving on in the future to Lois Lane.
