The “Do It Yourself” (DIY) method of learning to trade can be an expensive and frustrating proposition when trading e-mini contracts. Trial and error after trial and error. The most successful trading education situation I have observed is one where the trading methodology is sound and there is a third party involved called a mentor. A mentor is someone who is personally interested in the success of an individual, and takes more than a casual interests in the new traders careerr A mentor can oversee a wide range of activities in which the trader has participated; • correct faulty trading technique • instruct new and dynamic trading technique • teach proper money management • instruct proper trade management • stabilize confidence • help control unnecessary and self-defeating emotions These are just a few of the many capacities in which a mentor stands to help and teach a new trader. It's not unusual to see new traders who have read many trading books and some had even taken a few courses (that they're downright unhappy with.) But the problem is they do not have any real experience with a trading chart. Making the transition from “paper trading”to trading with real money and theory to balances and your personal futures trading account is a quantum leap. On the other hand, finding a good mentor is no small task. Such individuals are involved with investment clubs, trading clubs, and investment forums. Many of the better online courses offer mentorship programs that can be quite helpful, too. The point is a simple one, and it is to get a third-party involved in your trading. It's important to get feedback on your trading. A good mentor can spot potential problems in your trading approach, emotional approach to trading, or your money management skills. As a trader, you will have to have some level of mastery over all of these skills to be successful. The problem is, you had to learn all these skills at one time. I was lucky; my mentor found me. But I wholeheartedly encourage you to find a group of individuals, or mentor, who are interested in trading and share your ideas with them. This is actually fairly simple to do on the Internet, as there is a plethora of trading chat rooms. Introduce yourself and provide accurate and timely answers to questions and you will find yourself meeting traders all the time. You would be surprised at the similarity of the problems and frustrations new traders share. In summary, I have encouraged new traders to seek out someone as a mentor. We also pointed out some of the advantages of having a mentor brings. In short, get a trusted third party involved in your trading and you should see steady improvement.
