On the sea, at the time of sailing in a long way when there is nobody around the thing we required the most is a navigation chart which enables us to know the way in sea. Earlier the sailors were using the paper charts for the purpose of map etc. The GPS enables them to cut short the list of items they were taking on the journey. Now the chart plotter is used in place of those paper charts. It is a navigation device that comes with the GPS technology. The chart plotters display the position, and the speed of the ship. The marine chart plotter is basically the topographical map of the sea or water region. There are two formats available in the charts that are raster and vector. The raster marine chart consists of digital images. It shows the position of your boat in reference to the other features, like your distance from the land etc. The vector chart is a combination of the paper marine charts that can be overlaid with objects and information accumulated in a database. The charts includes real-time information such as current tides, precise coordinates of channel limits, and other geographic information designed to simplify navigation and make collision avoidance easy. The chart plotter uses the GPS data to calculate boat speed and direction, as well as determine the time and distance to the destination or next waypoint. As all this data is in real time so the sailor knows where his boat is. By this he continuously gets updates. The chart plotter is preloaded with the different maps of different locations and it can be edited at the time of journey. Some chartplotters allow the navigator to store hundreds of routes at a time for future use as well. The sea route consists of a number of way points to assist and avoid hazards. The marine chart plotter shows the visual representation of the boat’s position in reference with the surrounding. The distance travelled by the ship is measured by the waypoints close as each waypoint has a numbered position. This will guide you by telling you if you are going off the track. These charts are easy to install. They are excellent for navigating narrow, shallow channels such as in rivers. It records the depth and has a shallow alarm. And also have the anchor alarm to alert if the anchor has dragged. The chart plotter is the important invention for the anglers.
