The chemical components of GBFS is similar to cement clinker. For a long time, it is mainly used as the admixture of cement. In the traditional plant, slag, silicate/Portland clinker and gypsum are fed to the mills for grinding all together. But the abrasive resistance of slag is much higher than clinker, as a result, the slag particles are relatively coarse (bigger than ideal size) in the cement ground by the ball mill and the potential Hydration activity of the slag particles can not be fully realized. While if the slag is ground into 400-600m2/kg(the specific surface area) particles, it could be used as the admixture of premixed concrete, taking the place of cement clinker partly, to produce high-strength concrete equivalently. This technique not only helps investors save the construction costs, but also is good for comprehensive utilization of sources, bringing great social benefits. For example: In the regions located with many iron-Smelting companies, the waste slag is a big problem. Though some cement plants consume part of the slag, it is far from the ideal effection. If there is one slag micropowder grinding plant, the slag pollution will never be a problem. Actually, this technique is widely used in UK, USD, Canada, Japanese and some other countries since the 1960s. As the new construction material, the slag micropowder has a bright future.
