The largest sector consists of tableware, ovenware and kitchenware, which accounted for 71.7% of the total value of retail sales of china and earthenware in 2010. However, sales in this sector remained static in value between 2006 and 2010, largely as a result of an oversupplied market and competition from cheap imports, compounded by a decline in the number of marriages in the UK. It is estimated that sales of mugs and pottery products related to the Royal wedding may generate in excess of £23m in the UK.
