So you've got the grades. You've participated in all the essential extracurricular activities. Now it's really time to get serious about all the essentials before your college applications are turned in. If you're in your junior year, you should be prepping for entrance examinations, such as the ACT or SAT, and, depending on the universities you are applying to, you may need to take both. What's more, the applications themselves aren't easy to maneuver through. So what's the best approach for managing these necessities with minimal stress? First, you need to hire a tutor. Local Chicago tutors helped me work out my test strategy, along with helping me better anticipate what I would see on the big test. We tend to think that tutors are a last-resort when we're struggling in a particular subject, but the truth is that they can help us discover the best ways in which we learn and therefore how to absorb new knowledge as we encounter it. Don't forget about Advanced Placement exams! They tend to come near the end of junior and senior years, and the better you do on those, the further ahead you will be once you begin your college career. Often, the same tutors that will coach you in ACT or SAT prep can guide you in subject-specific exam readiness--or can at least recommend a tutor who can. Essays for college applications are your chance to make an essential positive impression, but it can feel almost impossible to formulate it on your own, even if writing is your strong suite. Discuss your options with your English teachers and tutors if you decide to enlist them. Be sure to begin the entire process as early as possible. Don't get discouraged by setbacks--we all face them. Persist until you are satisfied with your results in exams.
